I chose the Yamaha V665 after careful comparison with other units, and was very impressed with ease of setup and features. The sound quality is excellent, and while I had initial concerns with power output, at 90 watts it demonstrates more useable power than my previous NAD unit at 100 watts. I particularly like the four "Scene" buttons which allow linked input sources and sound fields and switch the unit on with one action. Contrary to other reviews on Amazon you can easily assign whatever input you wish together with a preferred sound field and assign it to any of these buttons. On the downside, you cannot assign different tone adjustments to these four "Scenes" which means I have to manually attenuate the bass to listen to spoken radio broadcasts which tend to create disturbing bass reverberations at times.

However the one big disappointment, which because of its nature I only discovered too late to return the unit (and I would not have purchased this unit had I known beforehand) is evident when a TV input from some (possibly all?) cable boxes is connected to the unit and passed through using the receiver as a switching unit (one of the key features of any modern receiver after all). In this mode the signal is subject to frequent dropouts of sound and video. Some days these dropouts are hardly evident and only for a fraction of a second, other days they are frequent and last long enough to leave the screen blank for a second or two or to delete entire words on the audio track. This happens with every possible connection I have tried, whether HDMI or component video (I have also tried monster cables to no avail). I have since seen other reviews reporting this same problem on other Yamaha units. My cable box is Time Warner but there are similar reports with Verizon Fios, so the problem seems endemic. Updating the current Yamaha firmware seems to have no effect.

There are always so many variables that it is difficult to track down the source of the problem, and I would hate to criticize Yamaha unfairly, but as the problem apparently occurs throughout the Yamaha product range, it would seem wise to hesitate on purchasing Yamaha until this problem is resolved.

The Lowepro Rover Plus AW is a dual compartment, all weather photo backpack with Technical Harness System. Let's take a look at what that means. The Rover series of bags have always been two compartment bags, with an upper "daypack" compartment for your lunch, light jacket and miscellaneous items. The lower compartment is for your camera gear. The two are separated by a removeable padded insert secured in place by hook and loop fasteners (velcro). Access is gained via unzipping YKK zippers and unsnapping a clip. There are two square sized mesh pockets at the side. There are two smaller triagular accessory pockets that flank the keenly located hideaway tripod harness and bungee cord straps - more on this later. The interior of daypack has a mesh pocket that runs down the center of the front flap (directly behind the tripod harness). The rear has a zippered laminated accessory pocket Behind that is a thin folder like pocket that will accomodate a thin 8.5x11 pad but not much else.Your camera gear is safely stowed below in a gray cloth reconfigureable padded insert. Deep enough to support a 70/80-200 f/2.8 lens attached to pro body. I don't have this lens, so I can't tell you for sure how accessible it is. I can tell you that I do carry the following, with room to spare: N70, SB-28, 24mm, 50mm, 28-105 (attached to body), 70-300 and 20-35 f/2.8, plus hoods.The camera insert can be removed and the padded separating insert that serves as the floor of the daypack can be removed or folded out to make for a large day pack or make room for a larger lens (is you retain the camera insert below for padding).The tripod harness tucks away underneath the bungee webbing and in held in place with more hook and loop fasteners. Behind this is another pocket! The tripod strap can accomodate a Bogen/Manfrotto 3021/455 sized tripod. The Rover AW is sized to carry a smaller Bogen 3001 (sorry, forgot the Manfrotto designation) tripod. There are bungee straps top and bottom to help secure the tripod.The Technical Harness System is inherited from Lowepro's larger Photo, Nature and Super Trekker bags. The back of pack will well padded for comfort for the long haul. The shoulder straps feature an ergonomic S-curve and small chest strap to help balance the load. Also attached are Slip Lock loops for accessories. The shoulder strap can be adjusted to fit just about any person, and are held in place with A LOT of hook and loop behind the back padding; there is a neat tool (a thin white piece of plastic) included that allows for quick adjustment by inserting it inbetween the pad and harness and adjusting it to the appropriate height and sliding the tool out). There are two height ajusting clips so that you can fit it comfortably to your body. Did I mention that the harness was OH SO COMFORTABLE?The waist strap is also thickly padded and has Slip Lock loops for more accessories (water bottle, lens cases, film case...whatever). Due to the size of the pack (and the amount of weight it can carry), this harness makes sense. It is comfortable after a long day of trekking and photographing. The only negative comment I have about the waist strap is that it is so darn bulky when you don't have the pack on! It DOES NOT fold away conveniently. I think this could be made thinner while still being able to support the bag.Other miscellantous stuff: Neat carry rubber carry handle on top. It also has Lowepro's patented AW cover but it does not work in you have a tripod attached.Like the Ford Model T's you can have it in any color you want as long as its black.Besides the thick waist strap, the only other negative that I found with this bag is that accessing the gear can be difficult with the daypack filled with items - and the fact that the pack padding does not bend readily (it seems to need a seam sewed into it to allow it fold easier). Or it could be that this bag needs to be "broken in" more.If you don't need a larger bag, you will probably be happier with the (current) Rover AW II. Most of the limited reviews I read for that model wanted a few inches here and there. This bag provides it at a cost: size and weight - it's bigger, bulkier and holds more and we all know that camera gear ain't light.Hope you found this helpful and informative. The description and the images show a black matte border which helps give the screen a clean look and reinforces the edges with stitching. The sales materials here on Amazon and also at Elite Screens reads "Black matte borders absorb projector over scan while enhancing visual contrast". I received this product yesterday. There is no border at all. The face is white edge to edge. The grommets are made of a rubbery plastic as opposed to the metal grommets pictured. There are 11 grommets on the sides and 16 along the top and bottom edges. The images show 3 grommets on the sides and 2 on the bottom and top. When the black rigging cords (bungee/dynamic rope) are woven through the grommets, it looks just plain tacky. The product they ship you is not the product they are showing or describing online.

Aside from the fraudulent advertising; the screen is well made. It is a stretchable plastic and the back of the screen is black.

It was packed tightly into a box and folded over many times. There is documentation along with the package which says that the creases formed will eventually come out. I am not convinced that they will ever fade away. The installation instructions are sparse and vague.

I called Elite Screens and was told that my DIY 133" screen had no borders. They told me there is no black bordered DIY screen available for sale. The service representative said "one option" I had was to return the item. He was aware of the inaccurate advertising. I asked what my other options were. He said there was no other option for remedy.

I am returning the screen. I'm disappointed to have wasted the time and effort. It is especially frustrating when the manufacturer is knowingly shipping something other than what they promise to ship.

Think Tank Retrospective 10-Black Small Shoulder Bag Review

Before I bought this Think Tank Retrospective 10 camera bag here, I thought long and hard about it. Camera bags are highly subjective choices, and in many cases it takes buying a few of them over a period of time to settle on the right one for your individual needs. And sometimes those needs can and do change with the changing camera gear that we use. This time I wanted to take a long-term view and settle on one that would really last for general everyday use.

This is a highly subjective and personal review from one who has gone through a number of bags over the years, and why I like this Retrospective 10 the best, and hope that my experiences can help others looking for that ideal DSLR bag.

Pros:

+ First-rate cushioned shoulder strap; soft and fully adjustable
+ Compact overall size; 13"W x 10 "H x 7"D, fits easily almost anywhere
+ Discreet outer appearance; doesn't scream "I'm a camera bag, rip me off!"
+ Excellent construction; black 1100D 'polyspun' polyester exterior fabric wears well
+ Seam-sealed rain cover; offers protection against the elements when you need it
+ YKK RC Fuse premium zippers; smooth, open easily, and do not jam
+ Carries full size DSLR with lens; room for extra lenses and additional gear
+ Organizer pocket in main compartment; holds batteries, LensPen, notepads, etc.
+ Removable carrying handle; great for grabbing bag when exiting taxis and such
+ Velcro 'Sound Silencers' on front flap; reduce noise while opening the bag
+ Clear business card holder under front flap; a place to store emergency supply

Cons:

- Small issue, but segmented organizer section could have more options for pens, LensPen, etc.

General Observations:

For personal use, the Retrospective 10 turned out to be the right size as an everyday bag with its 12"W x 9 "H x 6"D interior dimensions. If you think that you need a larger size, this bag also comes in two larger sizes: the Retrospective 20 is about 2 inches deeper and the Retrospective 30 is about three inches wider then the Retrospective 10. There are other sizes and materials as well.

I chose the black, which was a departure from the original choice, the Think Tank Retrospective 10, Pinestone. As much as I liked the look and feel of the sand-washed cotton canvas material look and the Pinestone color, had to go with the black poly version for total versatility: business meetings to the beach, within two hours. And the look and feel of the Retrospective 10 in black is surprising; it's like a discrete messenger bag yet with an almost casual "old school" look. The logo is a small one, unobtrusively printed on a small leather rectangle... and it's on the back of the bag. It doesn't scream at you, like those on my old cases. You know the type.

I fiddled with the interior dividers, yet returned them somewhat close to the original places. They're adjustable enough to be customized to so many types and shapes of photo gear, and the dividers will keep your gear from getting banged around, even when traveling down a rutted road in an SUV. And there are enough dividers that you can configure the Retrospective 10 the way that it best suits you.

Two wide Velcro strips secure the top flap, without the need for zippers or plastic latches that can break (speaking from experience). But they also have cleverly designed Velcro 'Sound Silencers' on the front flap to completely eliminate noise while opening the bag, and if you've ever shot inside a museum, you know how handy this can be.

As far as workmanship goes, the zipper is smooth and sturdy. Think Tank uses the premium YKK RC Fuse, and this coil zipper has a smooth and secure pull on it. It was failing zippers that jammed on another "pro" bag that brought me to Think Tank in the first place. After a tech support person from that other manufacturer suggested that I use a bar of soap to lubricate the zipper on that bag, I knew that I needed to start looking for something else. Not once have I needed to do the soap trick on this Think Tank bag.

The stitching and workmanship are exceptional, putting it simply. And it's worth noting that Think Tank offers an interesting lifetime guarantee that they call their "No Rhetoric Warranty." I read it; they're not kidding.

There's a small strap on top that's there for lifting the bag from place to place. It's also quite handy when you're taking a taxi during heavy rain or snowstorms, and need to grab the bag quickly when you're seeking shelter.

There are webbing loops on both sides of the Retrospective 10, and these can be used to quickly attach pouches such as the Think Tank Little Stuff It Belt Pouch. This is where I carry and attach my Nikon P7100 when I'm taking a full compliment of gear, and this arrangement works quite well. I have two small Nite Ize S-Biner double-gated carabineers attached to the other webbing loop to quickly clip accessories to the bag as well.

As good as the bag is, the shoulder strap is where it really shines. This is one first-rate shoulder strap with a comfortably cushioned non-slip pad. It's wider than most on the market, fully adjustable, yet soft and flexible, and the hardware is metal. This is the first bag that I've carried for a day in the field that didn't feel like it was sawing through my shoulder with every step.

In Use:

Even with a bag full of gear, the dividers are smooth enough to allow for easy removal when you need your camera or a lens quickly. Right now my Retrospective 10 is holding the following items:

Should note that I'll often leave the leave the flash and some of the other items at home, depending on the day and the photos I want to take.

Like many other Think Tank bags, this Retrospective 10 comes with a seam-sealed rain cover, one specifically designed to keep the shoulder strap and carrying handle outside the rain cover, offering the gear in the bag excellent protection from the elements. This proved itself during a trip to Florida, where it was bright and sunny one minute, and three minutes later it was pouring rain. It was unexpected; I was drenched, but my camera gear stayed completely dry.

I find the same level of quality and protection in the Respective 10 as I found a couple of years ago when I got my Think Tank Artificial Intelligence 15 V. 2.0 Laptop Bag for my MacBook Pro, the first product from this company that I owned. It proved to be a sturdy replacement for another laptop bag with a failing shoulder strap.

[Update 12/2/2012]

When the seam stitching started to unravel on the large "pro" bag referenced earlier in this review, it was time to consider getting a replacement. Looked closely at the larger Retrospective 30 as a 'carry-everything' solution based on my experiences with this bag. Long story to short, I ended up getting the Think Tank CityWalker 20, which holds all of the gear mentioned here plus quite a bit more, including a tablet computer. This was not a replacement for my Retrospective 10, which is still my smaller mobile bag for on the go usage. But now I don't need to worry about weak seam stitching, failing zippers and advice that a bar of soap applied to the zippers would cure all.

Summary:

This Think Tank Retrospective 10 bag was clearly designed by and for photographers. Some might be somewhat put off by the apparent lack of order inside, as everything is accessible, and doesn't get boxed-in by hard dividers that fit nothing. It allows immediate access to your camera gear, with a good level of protection.

The Retrospective 10 is efficient as an everyday camera bag that doesn't look like a camera bag. It's understated and subtle design of the bag let you blend in instead of being labeled by your gear. This is the first camera shoulder bag that I've come across that blends great styling with an enormous carrying capacity for the gear I use most. It's a 5-star bag that is highly recommended for those who want a bag that works for you instead of against.
