Product Description

This sync cord is a must in order to achieve TTL with the Ikelite TTL Digital Housing to maintain the TTL signal to an Ikelite Substrobe DS-50 or DS-125. It can connect 2 strobes to the housing. Sync Cord is a coiled cord type, has five conductors, bulkheads are nickel plated brass, and a built-in strain relief. This cord will also work with TTL film cameras. Cord comes with protective cap. Cap is machined from black Delrin, apply almost no squeeze to the "O" ring, and allow connector attachment on both ends of the sync cord.

Important: This is actually a DUAL sync cord (as the product name suggests), meaning it is Y-shaped with one end for the camera housing plus TWO ends for TWO Ikelite strobes. The product image incorrectly shows a different cord that can only connect a single strobe to a camera housing. In other words, if you have an Ikelite housing (with an Ikelite-style strobe connector) plus TWO Ikelite strobes, this is the right cord for you! If you have only one strobe, then you want the thing that is pictured here, not this.

(This is the TTL version of the cable, indicated by a small blue band around the camera end of the cord. There is also a non-TTL version for sale elsewhere. If you don't know what TTL means then I would respectfully suggest that this isn't the right product for you. It refers to "Through The Lens" metering, meaning that the flash power automatically adjusts for proper exposure based on the amount of light the camera "sees" through its lens... In order for an Ikelite system to work with TTL, the housing, the sync cord, and the strobe(s) must *all* be TTL-capable.)

As for the item itself: this item has only one purpose -- connecting two Ikelite brand TTL strobes to an Ikelite brand underwater camera housing --, and it does that very well. Do note that there's a large ~1" in diameter by 1" long cylindrical plastic block in the middle of the cable where the cord splits. I don't find it to be too much of a problem underwater. (You can see pictures on the manufacturer's website).

By the way, in case it's useful to you: I use mine for TTL with one DS-160 and one DS-161 and it works great.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 14.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 4.6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom with 2.7-Inch LCD (Silver) Review

I read just about every professional review I could find for waterproof digital cameras, and I was just about set to buy the Panasonic DMC-TS1 until I saw a number of user-reviews that said the TS1 leaked for them in saltwater. I wanted a camera that I could use for snorkeling, so this was a concern until I saw the release of this Panasonic DMC-TS2 with greatly improved "toughness". It is now waterproof to 33 feet along with being shockproof and freezeproof, so I jumped on it. Canon makes a really nice waterproof camera too (Canon D10), but the Panasonic TS2 has similar picture quality (these two cameras are ahead of the pack in this category)and is MUCH more pocketable and attractive. I love that this camera looks like a regular compact point-and-shoot, is very rugged and waterproof, is pocketable, takes great pictures, has a 4.6x optical zoom, and a ton of other features I won't even get into.

When I first got the camera, I took comparison pictures with this camera, an old Canon SD200, and my newer Fujifilm F200EXR. This camera far exceeded the old Canon and was very comparable if not better at some pictures than the very good Fujifilm. Ok, that was a good start, now to see how it holds up in the saltwater for several hours every day on a Caribbean cruise...

After a week of snorkeling, no leaks whatsoever!...

I was planning on just bringing this camera when I go to the beach, go to the pool, go flyfishing, and go on backcountry skiing trips, but after taking close to 1000 pictures last week on my Caribbean cruise (about half of them underwater, and down to about 20 feet), it just might have become my everyday camera as well!

If you need a rugged, very waterproof camera, that is still small enough to go everywhere with you, AND takes great pictures, I would definitely recommend this one.

Oh, and if you will be snorkeling or boating, I would recommend the Olympus Floating Camera Strap. It worked perfectly with this camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ5W 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom & WiFi - White Review

This is a real nice camera for the price, but the wifi, which is the reason I got it, was kind of a pain to set up. There is a button for a wifi "wizard," which should make things easier, but it didn't. That's because, at least for the average buyer, there's not enough information in the box to guide you through some of the things you need to know or have questions on. (I think most users are like me; you set up a wifi connection with a device, pray that it works, and then, thorugh trial and error, you're not even sure what you did that got you to the end result! And then you forget all that until you need to do it again.) I tried on line help at Panasonic and emailed their customer service, and got no where. Finally, I called their 800 number. Talked to a nice techie, but I think he was figuring it out on the fly, just as I was.

Here are two (I think) big helps for others who run into similar problems: 1. You CAN'T use the wifi until after you load the software and set up a folder where the wifi will transfer your pictures to. (Embedded in the directions, it does tell you to do that first, but it's far from apparent that things just won't work until then!) Second, once you load the software, you actually get a window that tells you exactly what you need to input in the final stage of wifi set up (but the nomenclature is slightly different, and that helpful fact was never made clear!), and this is where my problem occurred. BEWARE: if you have a computer that doesn't have a password, the final step WILL NOT WORK! (I never bothered with a password on my laptop:one extra step, and I've never worried about it: you need a password.) Apparently, the code is written so you HAVE TO input a password; you can't just leave it blank (At least their software program listed my password as "NONE," and that's what gave me the idea to try again once I added a password. The Panasonic techie had no clue as he walked me through exactly what I had done in the wifi set up (again), and he should have known about this issue since in my original email, I asked if that was the problem.

I can imagine all kinds of people returning this camera over frustration with the wifi (I mean, why would you keep it if you can't make this higher end feature doesn't work? Too bad, because I think I'm really going to like the camera itself. What I've seen so far, the menu choices are much easier to deal with that my older digital, an Olympus Zoom. I would strongly suggest to Panasonic that they put better "Quick Start" instructions in the box, ones that are consumer tested by ordinary people who are a little unsure of terminology and need the hand-holding. It's actually a 4 or 5 star camera with 2 star directions.

Q-See QM6008B-2 High-Resolution 600TVL Cameras Black Review

You can't beat the Q-see quality/value ratio. I paid 80 dollars for a two pack and ended up ordering two to replace some k-guard 420 TVL cameras. There is a 4 pack available but at the time of writing this, the 4 pack was 299! You can really tell the difference between 420 and 600 tvl. I would say about the difference between VHS and DVD quality; not HD but decent enough to make out faces much more so then the 420.

I have mine mounted underneath the eaves of my roof above some motion security lights; I cannot tell the difference between when the motion lights are off vs on, the night vision is that good. (There is a little clicking noise when the camera activates the physical B&W filter, I'm not sure how reliable that will be over the life of the product, but it sounds well made if that makes sense) However, my roof line is pretty short so the eaves are only 10 maybe 12 feet above the ground and during the night the IR blasters are so powerful they really blow out white areas and the camera has to self adjust which it does, but probably not fast enough to catch the face of an intruder. I would say it took .5 maybe 1 second to adjust to the blow out. That being said, this only occurs when someone is really close to the lens, so if your camera is mounted up high I don't see this being a problem. The quality is very good and will help in identifying faces.

Included in the box are two 60ft cables, decent quality, and a BNC to RCA adapter so you could plug the cameras straight into a monitor with RCA in for testing.
There is also a little tip sheet indicating first use may show a really dark picture. To resolve that you have to put your hand over the lens for 10 seconds to "calibrate" the camera... I did not have to do this and they worked right out of the box.

The main reason I bought these was to upgrade from 420 tvl to 600 tvl but I was very impressed the build quality of the cameras over my previous k-guard ones. The cables are routed through the mount so its impossible that they can get cut. However there is a routed slot in the base to route the cable out the bottom if your installation doesn't permit the other option. The glare shade is removable and adjustable but there are no slots that it slides into or locks into place in any way. It just kind of "hugs" the contours of the camera body, but it is very snug and I don't see it coming off accidentally.

What you see in the amazon picture is what you get, a very nice darker shade of silver (anodized?), very bright IR blaster, good quality auto-focus 600 tvl sensor (if a little slow to adjust) and excellent build quality at this price point. I highly recommend them!
