I travel and camp in a small trailer for long periods (weeks to months). Since campgrounds tend to be in isolated places with few cell/broadband towers, I have often had to drive to a town where the signals are stronger to use my cell phone and/or PC broadband card. I purchased this set [Wilson SignalBoost amplifier (811210) and 12" antenna (301103)] and installed them in my A-frame trailer. The difference in reception is impressive.

One of my favorite places to camp is in the mountains west of Boulder, Colorado. When I tried to use my cell phone (with Verizon service), it showed a bar and one half to two bars outside the trailer, if I held the phone facing east toward Boulder. Calls would connect for several seconds and then disconnect. My PC card (again, with Verizon service) would never even connect. After installation, both the phone and card work perfectly inside my trailer. I have not lost a call and my broadband speed is equal to the speed I have at home.

The installation of this unit was clearly explained and easy to follow. My biggest problem was that all the metal surfaces on the RV are coated and the magnet on the antenna will not stick to them. I solved the problem by gluing a metal washer to a PVC pipe end cap, placing the cap on a 6' section of 3/4 inch PVC pipe, sticking the antenna to the washer and lashing the pole to the outside of my trailer with tiny bungee cords. I am using this configuration at the campsite as I write this review.

The only complaint I have is that I cannot use the cell phone and PC card at the same time. I have emailed Tech. Support at Wilson Electronics to see if they have a Y-connector or splitter that would allow me to connect both the cell phone and PC card simultaneously. When I hear back I will add to this review.

The SignalBoost is worth every penny I paid for it. At less that $200 I would recommend the set to anyone who wants to improve cell phone and/or PC card signal strength.

I have used Casio point and shoot cameras for at least 10 years. This is my latest camera chosen because of the speed or interval between shots is really fast. There is a burst mode as well as the traditional feature of 3 timer shots which is helpful when trying to catch children with their eyes open. I wish there was an optical viewfinder ( Casio used to make one) but all compact cameras have abandoned the optical in lies of a larger LCD screen. So far I am really pleased with this Casio.

Olympus WS-500 Digital Voice Recorder (Blue) Review

I bought this as a backup to my other Olympus recorder (which I frequently lend out). My other recorder is an Olympus WS-100 which I bought 4 years ago. It was one of the first digital voice recorders ever made. It has served me well.

This unit contains a number of improvements over the WS-100 and the WS-400.

When I bought this, I was afraid I would have to carry around a USB cable with me. However, this unit has a little slide button on the side which extends a built-in USB connector. Plugging this into a USB port is a snap.

This unit is a little more compact than the WS-100. It also seems to solve the record delay which was a time vampire on the WS-400. This unit starts to record almost immediately on pressing the record button.

I would give this unit five stars except except the menu is almost indecipherable without spending an entire day memorizing and studying it. This means that you pretty much have to have the manual available for the first months you use this or you will not be able to use most of the features (unfortunately, this seems normal for most digital personal devices nowadays (except for Apple products)).

The arcane menu arrangement does not lend itself to quick and easy use of the unit if there are constant changes to your recording requirements unless you memorize the manual or have it available.

Other than that the plusses are that it supports Vista 64 bit, and, contains all of the features of the WS-400. The unit is easy to snap record conversations and other items.

It is a good buy at the price and easier to use, with all of the features, than any of the other small personal recorders I've looked at over the years by other manufacturers.

Bought this scope/tripod combination for use at the shooting range. At first I was impressed with the combo, but after using it at home for a while, I realized that there was a lot of movement at the connection of the quick connect on the tripod and the scope with no way of tightening it. It's possible that the scope is just too heavy for the quick connect. The scope was fine but I don't think that the soft case that comes with it is enough protection for as large a scope as this is
