I've been a happy owner of the smaller sibling to the Smith-Victor CF5, the CF1, for quite a while and needed something that could handle a heavier load, but still not weigh a ton when carrying it up a mountain.

The CF5 is just like the CF1, but much more beefy as it's rated for a load of 18 lbs, much higher than the CF1's 6 lbs.

Fit and finish look excellent and I'm sure this will perform just as well as the CF1 has done for me over the years.

One note, the CF1, CF3, and CF5 no longer come with retractable spiked feet - a feature I really use - despite descriptions that say they do on various web sites and my new CF5 did not. They instead have removable rubber-tipped feet that actually are pretty nice compared to the rubber feet of some other tripods.

So I called up the Smith-Victor offices and inquired if they had any spiked feet that I could purchase to put on and they are sending me 3 retractable spiked feet at no charge! These were the last they had in stock, but it's outstanding customer service to do such a thing.
