For just over $150 + shipping, the set up works, mostly. I opened the box and spent a half hour assembling the lights. Brand new only two of the bulbs worked, and after being turned on for just a few minutes a second burnt out. After a few uses the third has still not burnt out. The clamps on the lamps and umbrella do not really tighten down enough to lock the lamp into position. It will hold, but if you touch the lamp, even gently it will move. The clamps are just not strong. It feels like if you tighten down anymore you will break it.

But, really, it works fine otherwise. If you are a photographer, even a pro, who spends most of your time in the feild, it is a good set up for product photos, and even an occasional portrait.

Oben BC-1 Ball Head Review

I read the reviews and two ppl said it worked great on their Canon Mark II with a 70-200mm 4.0 lens. Let me tell you, you have to really tighten the lock knob really hard to get this head to stay in position. I will not hand the weight even with the stock 24-105mm 4.0 lens. It takes too much effort to lock in place. It will lock but takes up too much time and force. I will use it on the monopod as a backup head but def not the primary head. Hope this helps someone.

I bought this rig as a late Christmas gift for myself and I got it a day earlier than expected, which was awesome. When I opened the box all I could do was just drop my jaw and put the dang thing together. The sticker in the follow focus fell off within 5 minutes of using the thing but really it doesn't matter. Overall I love this thing. I did have to buy a tripod mount for it but hey, I bought it for $150 and all good deals come with a trade off. I gotta say this is a definite fantastic deal and I highly recommend it to all novice DSLR filmmakers looking to expand their abilities with these tools.

I've owned several Plantronics headsets over the years, and yes, the good ones are all expensive. That being said, they've been making great strides in improving comfort and functionality. This unit replaced a CS50 that I used for VOIP applications and plugged directly into a computer. This headset has many other features that the CS50 had, but I wanted to write a review specifically for those considering upgrading from a CS50. I use this particular model instead of Bluetooth or others because the range is exceptional-- almost as good as a cordless phone, and in some cases better! Far more than Bluetooth could ever think of with today's current standards.

What makes this unit better than the CS50? A few things:

1. Lighter/smaller
2. Replaceable tips and ear holders so you can customize the fit for your head. Really helps for those multiple hour calls.
3. You can use a USB dongle to plug in to the PC instead of having to plug the dock in via USB like the CS50-- better for travel & mobile use.
4. The unit will charge via USB dock if you don't have a power adapter with you-- much more mobile than the CS50.
5. The ear piece is smaller and fits in the ear with a gel instead of a "one size fits most" on the CS50.
6. The ear tip actually SWIVELS forward & backward-- maybe the single most innovative part of this unit compared to CS50. No work, it just adjusts to fit you properly!
7. Far more mobile-friendly. Comes with a hard shell carrying case so you can take just the USB adapter, the headset, and USB charging cable.
8. The audio quality is excellent, and has a little better user feedback than CS50 so you can tell if your mic is open or not.
9. Battery is far more easily replaceable, though I've never had to replace a battery in the past.
10. Also works great with MAC without any additional install of software. OS X current supports it automatically. I primarily use it with Windows 7.

I couldn't be more pleased with this device as an upgrade to the CS50. It sounds good on both ends, and I can also say that it works well with Google Voice, Skype, and other "not corporate" VOIP solutions as well. As we travel, we have business and personal life that doesn't stop and this device helps connect you to both seamlessly.

I know they're pricey-- but if you're a true professional or demanding of a great headset or talk lots of hours or frequently, you will be very pleased with this device.

Alpen Waterproof 15-45x60 Spotting Scope 728 Review

I was hoping this scope would have a wide field/bright image suitable for astronomical use, as a grab-n-go alternative to lugging out the 10" instrument. Maybe I am spoiled by astronomical optics that can provide a 2 or 3 degree field plus large aperture light gathering.
Alas, the 60mm objective and the narrow FOV of a spotting scope are just not enough for such use.
But - I will attest to this little scope's very fine optical and mechanical quality. The field is flat (in focus) all the way to the edge. Only a slight purple tinge at the periphery at 45x. Remarkable for a simple achromat lens system like this one. I could see the veins in a resting honey bee's wings at 50 yards. The focus knob is a one finger, butter-smooth feature intuitively positioned on top of the tube. The variable power eyepiece is non-removable, but operates smoothly. Coatings look very good. I would suggest that most of these 60 power scopes with 60mm objective lens are just exaggerating their functionality at 60X. In my experience, 1X power per mm lens diameter is unrealistic except in the most expensive optics; the image will be too dark, and a strain on the optics quality.
45X is the highest useable magnification at the 60mm lens size, IMO, and this Alpen confirms it.
This is probably the finest little scope near this price range for sighting in guns and for wildlife or general terrestrial use I have ever used. Looks good, feels solid and the rubber shell feels good. Nice carry bag too, full coverage eyepiece cap, and an all-metal shorty tripod with 1/4-20 photo-style bolt. Sweet deal. But ouch, they just jacked up the price!
