See my more detailed review on the second listing for this product. I use these for astronomy, which is a more demanding purpose than, say, sports events. The binoculars which are ideal for astronomy are: BaK7 Porro prisms, center focus, wide field (8 degrees) and, in my opinion, 10 x 50 (over 7 x 50), as well as light weight. This model fulfills all of these needs and weighs just two pounds (it is desirable to use them with tripod and tripod adapter for astronomical uses). Naturally they will work very well also for birding and for general purpose.
Vixen is Japanese made and today that means best quality material and workmanship, optically and mechanically. You can buy another pair, Chinese made, which are adequate for half the cost, but in the long run, you aren't getting the lifetime investment you receive with Vixen binoculars. They are worth the little extra outlay.
