Product Description

The Loc8tor Plus is the ultimate tool that will help you keep tabs on your children, pets and possessions and is ideal for use at home, out and about or for business. The Loc8tor Plus has two main functions; Locate and Alert mode. Locate mode -- Is for Finding. To find an item, simply select from a drop down list on your handheld which tag you want to locate. Directional audio and visual cues from the handheld will guide you to the exact location of the missing tag. It will literally take you minutes (even seconds) to find things that would normally have you hunting around for hours and maybe never found at all. With amazing accuracy you will be guided to within an inch/2.5cm whether you are indoors or out, in complete darkness or in a noisy room.To find your item turn around in a full circle then walk in the direction the handheld indicates has the strongest signal It'sas easy as that.

LOC8TOR Plus Pack Review

I bought this to try with my ferrets. It would be better if the tags were smaller, but they're small enough to work if you sew them flat on a harness or collar.

I put it on a harness and let my ferret "loose" in my house. Normally they have 3 rooms they're allowed in, but they're not allowed in the rest of the house (mostly due to the "wreaking havoc" factor). I let the ferret play for a couple hours, and went looking for him once he fell asleep. I have 3 floors and a basement, and it only took me about 1 minutes to locate him. It works through the walls and floor (which can be confusing, but not horribly). He'd chosen to go to sleep inside my bedroom closet. My library adjoins the bedroom, and initially I thought he was in a closet in the library, but then I realized, it was reading through the wall and when I went into the bedroom, the locator beeped louder.

I haven't tried it yet outside (too chicken--I'm afraid I'll find the tag and not the ferret) and I have to see if it will still work if the ferret climbs inside a metal pipe, but this has some possibility.

The locator and tags are plastic, and won't withstand being immersed in water (but the website does include instructions for making it more resistant0, but the technology works, and I wanted to support the company so they'll have the capital to continue to improve their product.

The product would be most useful for items lost inside (your house, for example) and animals that tend to hide inside or if outside will hide and be still (and not come when you call them like ferrets and cats).

Ferrets and cats both are the kind of animal that if they slip outside will become frightened and hide. Most are too frightened to even come when you call them. This locater would be able to find those fairly easily. Ferrets are always trying to get out, and it's extremely difficult to find them. They *usually* stay close to the house, but if you walk and call them (and even if you squeak toys they normally come to) they will often not budge. This only has a range of 1/10 of a mile, but if you're walking around your neighborhood, you will get a reaction and know which area to check rather than just wandering around clueless.

I'd be a lot happier if it were smaller, and I have some concerns about putting it on anything besides a break-off collar or harness, due to the animal getting caught and strangling itself trying to get loose. They're less likely to strangle on a harness, but would be more likely to get stuck on something. But if you went looking quickly, being stuck isn't as much of a danger.

If you have a cat that is always trying to slip out the door, or a ferret with a known history of escaping, I'd strongly recommend getting one of these. Don't leave it on while the animal is in the cage, of course. Never leave the house without knowing where your ferret is ... don't assume he's asleep somewhere. The best way to keep track of your ferret is to check on them frequently...they are always trying to kill themselves!
