The Polaroid PL144 Shoe Mount Flash is an economical full-TTL enabled flash with support for digital SLR cameras. It features a powerful Guide Number of 148'/45 m at 85mm position, and features a power-zoom flash head that covers a focal range from 24mm to 85mm.The flash includes a built-in slave function which allows it to be positioned off-camera, and triggered by any second flash. You can also manually adjust the power level of the flash output from full-power down to 1/16th. It is the perfect economical all-purpose flash for any digital or 35mm SLR shooter.

I paid $129.92. It was shipped with Amazon Prime and I received it in two days. I've only had the flash for a week but I'm impressed enough to write a review now. I may update it later as needed. I am using it with my Sony A55 camera and Sigma 18-250mm lens. This is the first review for this flash with the Sony mount. There are reviews for the Canon and Nikon mount but they do not reflect the interoperability of the flash with the Sony.

PROS:
1. Good price for what you are getting.
2. Full integration between the Sony and the flash when the flash is down and facing forward.
3. Faster flash shutter speeds (1/60, 1/80, 1/100, 1/125, 1/160) available when using PASM modes.
4. Simple and intuitive controls on the LCD for manual modes.
5. Red light assists the camera to focus in low light and even pitch black darkness and at great distances. I shot pictures of the fence in my back yard, at 50+ feet, on a moonless night and had perfect focus of the wood grain. The Sony's pop-up flash uses little bursts of white light to focus. The red light on this flash is steady and more subtle for a better experience by the photo subject. It casts something of a striped pattern so it focuses well even on low texture surfaces.
6. The Sony A55 is known for its fast focus and this flash definitely helps in low light situations. There is no lens hunting. It even focuses when I can't see my subject through the lens.
7. The motorized strobe head moves back and forth inside the flash housing as the lens zoom is adjusted from 18mm to 250mm. Although the documentation states the zoom is only between 24-85mm, my pictures are properly exposed at the full range of my lens. To avoid shadows in the two lower corners between 18-28mm, use the pull-out diffuser. Otherwise, there are no shadows in the corners even with the tulip hood on.
8. Slave mode allows you to use the flash off the camera body. Above the red light, there is an optical sensor that detects if another flash pops. So position the flash away from the camera to provide your unique lighting angle, swivel the flash head toward your subject and the flash body toward the camera, and use the Sony pop-up flash. This is good for use with my Sigma 8-16mm lens which blocks the light coming from the pop-up flash creating a dome shaped shadow. The flash is in manual mode during slave mode, requiring you to select ISO, aperture and intensity.
9. Its compact size makes it easy to use and to store. Its body is angled forward avoiding contact with my head while I'm looking through the EVF.
10. The Sony A55 is known for using up its battery faster than other cameras, especially when using continuous focus, GPS, etc. Naturally, a good external flash helps preserve the camera's battery for camera operations instead of flash operations.
