Sightmark Triple Duty 8.5-25x50 CDX Riflescope Review

I've read many reviews regarding this scope, most of which were positive. I wish to write one of my own. Being a retired police officer, experienced in long range shooting and with many products, my review attempts to be fair and complete.

First is the optics. I've read here and elsewhere that clarity of this scopes optics good, its not. My findings is once dialed up past 16X, optics become milky. Worse at 20X and forget 25X. It's like putting your wife's white silk stockings in front of your scope. Clarity is not good but if you want to fight through it, be my guest. Add mirage's effects at distance, impossible! Eye relief is adaquate but at the higher powers past 16X, getting a sight picture is finnicky. The scope also comes with an illuminated red and green dot. Great under low light conditions only. Forget seeing an illuminated dot during sunny days, just isn't there, completely bleached and washed out.

Now comes the accuracy of the windage and elevation adjustments. The scope does not come with caps for the knobs, boo, shame on the mgf. The locking turrets are nice however and they work. As for tracking, the clicks are distinctive. The problem is this scope is it failed the box test. Once zero'ed, and with 1/8" moa, with eight clicks up gave me an just short of a full inch. Windage consistency was poor. In the end I ended up with more of a diamond instead of a box. Everything was slanted to the right. Upon completion of the box test, the final leg almost brought me back to zero, three click short of where it should be. I triple checked this three times, same results each time. Let me put it this way, you need to mount this scope angled and rotated 45 degrees left in order for this scope to shoot a box. The scope does hold zero after a four foot full rifle drop test on its side (both sides). My test caliber was a 300 Win Mag.

The sliding range adjustment was nice as was the parallax. Just don't dial up power past 16X, very milky thereafter.

Conclusion is this is a great looking scope with all the features of and expensive scope. The 30 mm tube is very nice. I would rate this scope as a good target model ONLY and would NEVER mount a Sightmark on a work rifle that my or anyone's life would depend on. The rings that come with the scope are rubbish as are the plastic lens covers. You'll look cool at the range punching holes on paper but absolutely forget doping it for real work. It's a target scope at best. If you need a really reliable scope, this isn't it.
