Southern Stars SkyFi Wireless Telescope Controller with USB.

Battery Power - The SkyFi uses 4 AA Batteries which last approx 8-12 hours. In addition you can forgo the batteries if you like and power the SkyFi with a Car Battery Adapter or a basic AC Adapter.

Configuration Is Easy - The SkyFi will establish a 802.11 wireless network which will initially be an open network but you can quickly customize and password protect it. All you have to do is join the network from your wireless device and once you do it is smooth sailing from there! The only hiccup could be if your iPhone, iPad or computer does not acquire it's IP address from DHCP. In that rare instance some additional configuration will be required.

Connection - Your new SkyFi will be equipped with a standard RS-232 DB9 serial adapter. This will allow you to utilize the serial cable that comes with your telescope.

Application Use Required - In order to use your SkyFi system properly you will need a telescope control app running on your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Droid or Computer. SkyFi was built to work with SkySafari on all devices.

I was skeptical because so many things associated with astronomy and telescopes seem to be a bit quirky, but this unit worked perfectly for me. The only problem I had was the double-back tape that came with it; it simply refuses to stay stuck to the tripod. Other than that, this unit does exactly what I expected: let me control my telescope from my iPad. It seems a bit pricey for being just a plastic box with a board inside, but for what it accomplishes, it's worth it.
