This is my first "real" tripod ball head and I did read some reviews before buying. I feel that the SUNWAYFOTO FB-36 40lb Max load Tripod Ball Head is a good value. It has excellent fit and finish and I like the design. My most common need for a tripod is for panoramas, and the swivel on this is smooth and easy to adjust. The less expensive model doesn't have a separate knob to lock the swivel. I don't use this regularly so it may take some time before I really get to know it well. I use this with my Canon 7D with SUNWAYFOTO 56mm QR Plate DPG-50U. The built-in bubble level is convenient. There is a friction adjustment so that when you loosen the ball the camera will not flop over, and you adjust this for the weight of your camera. One of the heavier lenses I use is the 24 oz. Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, and the ball head does well with that. The box the ball head ships in, while cardboard, is high quality and well-made to protect and store. The clearly-written and illustrated 16 page manual (one half is Chinese) is printed on high quality paper.

NOTE: The camera quick-release plate is not included. This is because the QR plates are specific to your camera make and model.

NOTE: for optimum performance, the weight of camera equipment should be less than or equal to one-fifth of the maximum load. The ball head includes a threaded adapter for the smaller threads found on some tripods. The sunwayfoto web site is helpful for selecting the right components for your camera and your needs.

The manual stated that the one year warranty is extended to five years if you register on the sunwayphoto web site. However, when I went to their web site to register, it stated that the warranty would be extended only 18 months.
