I purchased a three year warranty on a laptop using the iphone application two years ago, I payed in full with paypal and took a picture of my receipt and sent it along. I then received an email indicating that my account everything was complete in the event that I needed to warranty my laptop. Two years later, when I need to have some minor things repaired there is no record of my receipt on file. Not a big deal because I kept my receipt and resubmitted it. I shipped off my computer as they requested and waited for a reply. A week and a half later I get an email from Debra Canter telling me I need to pay $250 to repair my computer with no explanation as to why. I called the squaretrade people and was informed that because of a crack on the screen bezel (cheap plastic thing that goes around the screen) my computer must have been dropped and my warranty does not cover accidental damage. The other issues were a battery that wasn't discharging correctly and a sticky key in the keyboard. So I cut my losses and told them to refund my money (approximately half of what I paid) and return my computer. Five days later I still had not received any tracking information so I called to find out if it had been shipped. It had not, I called the next day and was furnished with a tracking number and told that I would have my computer back in two days. They shipped it UPS ground and it was not due for six days, then it could not be delivered because they did not deign to properly copy my address. I will absolutely never give these people another cent.

Velo Transit Men's Compact Waterproof Messenger Bicycle Backpack (Red, Large) Review

I have recently started a walk/bus commute in which I walk several miles each day in Seattle. Consequently I needed a comfortable, waterproof backpack that also looks professional. Sure, you can get one of the large plastic sack bags with a roll top that looks like they would survive a roll over on your kayak. They are quite waterproof but do not look very professional. I have the District 30 which is a fantastic pack. It is a bit bigger than the Compact 25 but very similar in most ways. I had a hard time deciding which one to get. Either would have been a great purchase. Let me tell you about the District 30 since it is the one that I have. I have been using it for several weeks now and I have some observations.
1. Comfort - This bag is the most comfortable backpack I have ever owned. The company founder and pack designer has designed this bag with comfort in mind.
2. Professional/stylish - This pack comes in many colors and I have the all black one. Let me just say that this is a cool and stylish looking pack. It has a roll top pack which I will cover later but it does not look like a large plastic bag. Regardless of the fact that it is waterproof, it is a great looking bag. It also has several other pockets for keys, papers, iPad, etc. It is not a one chamber bag.
3. Waterproof - While I have not had the opportunity to try it in one of the big Seattle downpours yet, I have faced a few showers with everything staying completely dry. The main roll top chamber of the bag is lined with a waterproof liner. The outside pockets of the pack are protected with a waterproof flap. I have confidence that this bag will protect all of my items.
4. Quality - You will not find a better pack for any price. The padding is great, the stitching is hefty and it is put together to last. This pack is hand made in Seattle. You can certainly pay less for a mass made pack but it will not be waterproof nor will it have this high quality. For all of the money I am saving riding the bus, I decided to invest in a quality pack. Why not?

So in summary, you cannot go wrong with any of the Velo Transit backpacks. They are high quality, waterproof, comfortable and built right here in Seattle.

Redrock Micro DSLR Baseplate Review

This DSLR Baseplate is such a simple, elegant, and perfect solution for installing your DSLR camera onto your full-size camera rig (15mm rods/60mm spacing). I'm using this new DSLR Baseplate with my Canon 7D, along with a redrock follow focus, matte box, and shoulder mounted rig... and I couldn't be happier with how well it all works together.

This baseplate matches the extremely small footprint these DSLR's have compared to a 'standard' video camera. As many of you know, this small footprint causes quite a challenge when it comes to using your follow focus, especially with a small lens like a 50mm. I have yet to find a baseplate that doesn't extend out past the base of my Canon 7D. Well, until now.

It also raises the camera to the perfect height to use with a follow focus and a matte box (perfect height assuming you don't use a battery grip attached to the bottom of your DSLR). And even without using the included camera-specific locking pin, this thing is rock solid (or redrock solid) when attached to your camera and a good set of 15mm rods. Add the locking pin and you'll feel like this baseplate is simply an extension of your camera body. This is some heavy-duty confidence inspiring equipment.

It's hard to pick a 'favorite' feature, but the ability to quick-release this DSLR Baseplate from the rods might be in the lead by at least a nose. It is amazingly convenient to switch from a complex setup on the end of a jib-arm to simply holding the camera in your hand, with only a few turns of the quick-release dial. And the DSLR Baseplate is removed from the camera just as easily. Absolutely no need for adding quick release plates, which keeps it simple AND much lighter.

I can positively recommend this product with 100% confidence, assuming of course that it meets your needs ...wow, that would be a real shame to see this amazing little piece of gear just sitting unused in someone's kit.

I have bought a number of products from DNJ Radio and found them to be honest to a fault. I have several RM Italy VHF mobile amps, including the new LA145 received this week. On a dummy load at 146 MHz driven with 4 watts the amp output is 75 watts. This seems to be an improved replacement for the KL145, which I have one of as well. I also have a LA144 model in my QRP pack for use with a FT817ND radio.

I've had and tested numerous RM Italy amps. I believe my experience with RM Italy and DNJ Radio is extensive.

You can tell the quality of a vendor by the service rendered when there is a product issue. Frank at DNJ Radio is the perfect seller. I have dealt with him on HAM gear for a year. I had some issues with prior revisions of RM Italy amps and can't compliment Frank enough for how well he treated me and took care of any issues to my complete satisfaction.

My RM Italy LA144 has performed flawlessly and I expect the new LA145 to work just as well. You can buy with confidence from DNJ Radio, with no worries.
